We will begin a new school year this coming week and we are now entering the High School world and completing the grade school world. What an exciting time we have ahead of us. Trombones are Awesome

I am a band mom and I love it....our daughter is one of the only female trombone players in our school band. It takes a strong girl to play this instrument. We recently took a two day trip out of town to support our basketball teams in a three state competition. So much fun.

This sweet kitty spent much of his childhood in the parking lot of my husband's business. Shortly before Christmas 2010, my husband called me about this little guy - he was rubbing against clients and employees as if to say, "please take me home." So, we took him home and he joined our family. This it the type of cat that gives kitties good reputations. If everyone could have a cat like this one everyone would have a cat. He is loving and calm. Nothing seems to bother this little guy. We name him Little Grey when we was little. Now he is huge, but still our little guy.

Hello to all who like to read my little blog. I have been away for quite some time and I think I am ready to devote much attention to my blog and Blue House. My dream for many years has been to create great products that people enjoy and to be able to earn some nice "pocket money." I also have a great desire to create a blog that touches and inspires. I also want to present my products since I am a capitalist.
Just a little background....my mother was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma during the spring of 2009. Being a widow for several years, Mom was terrified. Terrified at the thought of cancer and terrified that she would have to travel this difficult journey without her true love and best friend. I was terrified too because of what Mom was about to be force to endure.
Our family had never had to deal with cancer, so chemo, ports, and staging were only words we had heard from others. Now we were learning more than we ever imagined. I spent hours on-line learning about NHL. I also spent hours caring for my mom. My aunt traveled and spent weeks at a time with Mom on several occasions which was a gift to Mom and I. My brother lived out of state for much of her treatment and was able to offer words of encouragement over the phone.
Months were spent shopping for Mom, caring for animals, chemo treatments, hospital stays, dressing, grooming, talking, and loving. There were days I just wanted to run from my new responsibility, but most of the days I reminded myself that this was an honor to give back to my mom.
During the spring of 2010 we were somewhat encouraged and thought that Mom may finally make it into remission. We had what my brother called, "her Indian Summer." This was the time when Mom worked in her yard, painted a fence, cleaned house, took care of her animals, and felt some sense of normalcy. This was also a time when she shared almost every little tidbit about her life that she could think of to tell me. We were together almost daily during this wonderful time and she told me so much. She told me about her childhood, her marriages to both of my dads, her pets, her dreams and goals. This was the time I think I truly feel in love with my mom.
On September 1, 2010 we received the word that no treatments would help Mom and that there was nothing left to do. Mom and I went to her house, ate turkey sandwiches and cried. Mom wiped the tears from her eyes and got busy getting her affairs in order. By this time, my brother lived nearby and Mom frequently walked us through the house giving us instructions. She just wanted everything to be in order for my brother and I.
Mom passed away on September 18, 2010 in the very early morning hours. My brother and I were able to hold onto her as she took her last breath.
Mom was a believer in Christ and I know that she is now in heaven were there is no pain or worry. I believe that she is not missing me because the glory around her is so awesome. I believe she is just waiting and believing I should be showing up any time.
Life without your mom is very difficult. I have cried almost every day since she left me. Taking care of her home, animals, possessions, and affairs have been very sad and very difficult. I am now reaching the end of my duties and wondering what God has in store for me now.
So, in closing. The time is now to heal broken family relationships. The time is now to heal you relationship with our Lord. "No man comes into the Father's presence without belief in His son, Jesus."

When we view the flag, we think of liberty, freedom, pride, and Betsy Ross. The American flag flies on the moon, sits atop Mount Everest, is hurtling out in space. The flag is how America signs her name. What does the blue mean? The unofficial, but recognized meaning is Justice, Loyalty, and Perseverance.

When I think of America I think of a place where we all have a chance to be the best we can be. Not all playing fields are equal - some are born into poor families and some are born into wealthy families. It is up to each of us to choose a path. Some may have to work harder to achieve greatness and others may have much handed to them. Either way, we all make choices each day and every choice we make can affect where we end up. America is not suppose to be completely fair, but it is suppose to be a place where freedom and hard work can lead us all to greatness.

Hi All!

How many of you have helplessly watched your outdoor cat or dog become the victim of a blue jay air raid? I can remember watching our oragnge tabby, Spunky, recieve many attacks from one aggressive jay. Jays are very territorial. They will protect their feeding and nesting areas from various animals and humans. Dive bombing is a favorite form of attack. Jays are found throughout North America and are related to the crow, raven, and magpie. They can mimic the sound of a hawk - this is one way to they scare other birds away from their area. Jays are omnivours and enjoy insects, nuts, and seeds.

So, this spring and summer be on the lookout for these fierce birds and don't be afraid to let them join the smaller, sweeter birds at your backyard feeder.

Vintage Hair Rollers

Hello and Happy Spring!

I just listed a great item on my ebay site. These plastic hair rollers will take many of you back to the days when all female hair was tall and teased. By the time I started using rollers, sponge rollers were the new thing. Do you remember the hair dryers with the plastic cap and air tube? I would imagine rollers similar to these pink beauties were underneath plastic caps everywhere.

New Boxes

I have recently completed three boxes that hold 3x5 recipe cards. I now have red, green and walnut boxes. Each box has been hand-distressed with "inked" edges. My special technique gives each box an aged look. Some will call it "grungy", but I call it Primitive.

Unique Recipe Box

I am wanting to show off this great recipe box I created before Christmas. It was a lot of fun putting something unique together. I painted the box with a walnut finish and then hand distressed - I love the distressed look. I applied a darker shade to the edges just to give it the aged look. I then embellished it with a vintage flourish pattern. The fleur de lis has a vintage look too. I have this box listed on my ebay site for $14.00.

I am currently working on a box with a very dark walnut finish.

Wow! What a great Christmas - the great blizzard of 2009 swept across OK. We had a great time slipping and sliding over roads, bridges, sidewalks, and even across the lawn. Our family enjoyed the beauty that a deep snow brings. Enjoy the photos of Blue House and our sweet Nativity scene surrounded with the white stuff. I have even added a photo of snow covered ducks.

the Little Blue House was closed for most of December except for just a few orders. I have now opened shop again and have started listing items on my eBay site. I plan to add more vintage items to my store in '10 and my artsy inventory will continue to grow. Also keep in mind that I am still closing out my toy store and I will have toys marked below or almost below wholesale on my eBay site.

I am glad to be back and I hope that all of you will have a blessed upcoming year. Make every moment count for others and be kind to yourself - remember...."do not grow weary in doing good" - there will be a harvest one day!

I love aprons....I do not wear a vintage apron around my kitchen, but I do wear an apron I received in Maine with a smiling lobster on the front. Aprons date back decades. In the mid-20th century women wore two types of aprons - one for cooking and cleaning and one for entertaining. During the 1050's, the half-apron was popular. Vintage aprons can sell for prices up to $70.00.

Clean Duck

Our daughter is great when it comes to talking ducks into a hug. We named this duck Clean Duck simple because he seems to be snowy white almost all of the time. When the other ducks are muddy, he seems to stay clean. The Piken ducks seem to be one of the friendliest types. After releasing Clean Duck from his hug, he slowly made his way to the pond.

What is a Cowl????

I discovered cowl scarves at a local craft and art show (more artsie) last winter and decided that I wanted to knit a cowl. I have made several and I have found that they are very warm and they stay in place - no re-wrapping that comes with traditional scarves. I have also found that cowls are very cute and stylish. On Halloween Eve, I layered a cowl with a turtle neck sweater and a cute fitted jacket - the outfit really came together (thanks to the cowl). I am in the process of making several now. I am experimenting with different threads and yarns. So far, I have made larger ones, but will soon began smaller ones (for kids or adults who want a snugger fit).

Great Day at the Parade

Duckling with Daughter

This is one of our ducklings with our daughter. It became cold outside and we had to bring the babies in where it is warm and cozy. They were living in an outdoor enclosure and now they are living in our shed. They have a warm bed and a heated room. We took the ducklings from their mother and let Momma Duck rejoin the other adult ducks. Momma Duck was angry about us scooping up her babies, but is happy to be back in the pond. She is back to her care-free duck life.

FYI....Baby ducks have to be kept very warm and dry until they have their adult feathers. If they are sent outside with cooler temperatures and baby feathers they will not survive.

Goodbye to a Great Summer!

What a great summer we had. There is nothing like late nights looking at the stars, swimming, Fourth of July, and summer vacations. This photo was taken of me during a weekend trip to Six Flags.
Now, it's time to welcome Fall. It's time to pick out pumkins and gourds. It's also time to pull out sweaters and jeans. Raking leaves, cool nights, and comfort foods are favorites of mine.

Sad News

I have sad news....two of the baby ducks died this morning. We are thinking that mom duck decided her brood was too big yet again - she killed a ducking about one week ago. We brought the remaining five into the house and they are getting settled. I hope to have photos of the five babies posted soon.

I also have two great items from the Little Blue House to post - I will do that next.

Two Ducks

I am a wife and mother - I love all that comes with family. I am also an animal nut. I would like to introduce you to Little Looker and Clean Duck. We have kept water birds for almost three years and I have found that they are all fascinating.
